ThreeChordGuitar.com: how to play Harvest Moon (Neil Young)

I recorded a version of this song and received several requests for a lesson on how to play it, so here we are. I focused on the verse structure, the chorus and the riff.

Gear used:

Ovation Elite T
Bose L1
TC Helicon Harmony G

  1. Hello Mojo,
I have been enjoying your stuff for more then a couple of years now. Would you possibly consider doing “Send Me Someone to Love” by Percy Mayfield? I could send you a live CD with a killer version on it…
Thanks for everything, you one super cool dude…

  2. Hi Mojo,
Thanks so much for the “Harvest Moon” song. I’ve been a Neil Young fan for about as long as there has been a Neil Young and this is one of my favorites. I never would have figured it out on my own.
I just discovered your site a couple of months ago… It’s great.

  3. I think you did a great job teaching this song. I could not tell how you strummed it though. It sounds like a pick to me but I cannot spot one in your hand. I tried strumming the riff without a pick and I kept snagging a nail on the up strum. How did you strum it?

  4. Dude,

Great tune. Big Neil fan here. Thanks for the lesson, always wanted to learn how to play this song. I am on my way thanks to you!!! My wife will be surprised on our 20th anniversarry, when I play this. We were at a camp ground in Oregon when I heard this drinking wine with her under a full moon, surrounded pine pine trees. Thats when it clicked, I need to learn how to play the guitar. Thanks, for everything….

    • Thank you so much for the comment, you made my day 🙂
      Be well!

  5. I love your voice Mojo! Neil Young is one of the greatest songwriters ever in my opinion.

I have a fingerstyle version of this song on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cvNQXkr-40

I don’t have a voice like yours so I have to resort to making the guitar do everything 🙂
